As of today, April 16, 2018, the 2019 Gallifrey One convention is sold out. Thank you to the thousands of people who purchased tickets to our 2019 event in the approximately 48 hours tickets were on sale.  (We actually sold a few more tickets this year than last!)

An announcement about the opening of hotel accommodations at the Marriott LAX for our 2019 weekend will be coming this week, so please make sure you keep checking back. We expect ‘hotel day’ to happen somewhere late in the second week of May, with the usual proviso: Gallifrey One only provides a discount block code and it’s first-come first-served. More on that later.

But first…

People ask us, “why do you sell out so quickly?” We firmly believe that it’s because people trust us. Because of our integrity, and our track record.  Because, for twenty nine years, Gallifrey One has striven for excellence. We don’t believe in doing things half way.

Many science fiction and genre conventions around the country promise you a three-day experience, but then they open up Friday afternoon (or later) and come to a stop on Sunday afternoon. Not Gallifrey One… we open our doors Thursday evening with a gala launch party (and a full night of karaoke!); then, we launch our programming at 9:00am on Friday morning, and our Closing Ceremonies usually end shortly before 7:00pm Sunday. 

We don’t give you a program with one large auditorium and one secondary track; we give you five full program tracks of interviews, Q&As, discussion panels, workshops, interactive events, academic presentations and live commentaries. That doesn’t even count our busy meet-up/social event track with things like the “Drink & Draw” and bow tie workshops; or, our full video program, Art Show, gaming program, kaffeeklatsches, private receptions and scavenger hunts. Plus, when we say we have evening programming, we mean it: major events both Friday & Saturday nights that run well past midnight, evening panel tracks, parties and much more.

And we limit our attendance — our entire attendee base, our wonderful staff comprised entirely of volunteers, and our guests — to under four thousand people. That won’t change; this is the size of convention we wish to run, nothing more.

For those of you who missed purchasing tickets this time around, you’ll have one more chance when transfers open up in December & January (as there are always people who learn close to the event that they can’t make it after all, so we give them a chance to resell their tickets at cost to others who can.)

You might think that Gallifrey One, which sells out ten months in advance, would simply rest on its laurels. But we never do: we’ve earned your trust by delivering the goods, each and every year. We work tirelessly on our guest lineup all year, for the most diverse and wide-ranging convention guest list we can design… classic and new Doctor Who, writers from TV and audio and comics and books, behind-the-scenes guests, and even guests from a variety of other genres (all of whom enjoying being here because they’re Doctor Who fans too!) We work with amazing partners, great promoters, and friends in both the local community and the Doctor Who world to bring you something new each and every year.

As we approach our 30th anniversary, we think the reason we’ve lasted this long is simple: our hearts are always in the right place. And next February, we will once again pull out all the stops to show you, our attendees, a fantastic time… because that’s what we do. We can’t wait to show you what we’re working on… we’ll start guest announcements this summer, program announcements starting in the late fall.
