UPDATE 4/29/14: The Marriott LAX is effectively sold out for the entire convention weekend. We have been made aware that many people have been calling the hotel to press for more rooms, some even becoming irate when they are told the hotel is sold out. We’d like to remind our attendees that continuing to call the hotel won’t change that situation, or help our relationship with our hotel. Rooms may appear at a later date due to attrition (people canceling, etc.) but this might occur months down the road. In the meanwhile, there are still many nearby hotels that have availability left, including the Hilton LAX, Four Points Sheraton and Crowne Plaza LAX, all of which are at comparable prices. You can find great discounts on Expedia, Orbitz or other online travel sites.
That was an adventure, certainly… Hotel rooms at our host hotel, the Marriott LAX, sold out in only a few short minutes, as expected; same with our overflow hotel, the Renaissance LAX. (They didn’t start selling out until just after 12:07pm, though, due to an IT glitch at the Marriott LAX preventing their code from going live.) Both hotels are nearly to full capacity, with only Marriott corporate deals available (for example, there is still a package with limited availability at the Marriott for $219/night if you book from Wednesday through the following Monday or Tuesday). Gallifrey One did our absolute best this year to reserve the MAXIMUM number of hotel rooms available at both hotels, and now it appears that they’re nearly full. There will be no additional discount blocks available. As we’ve stated in the past, Gallifrey One provides the discount rate as a service, but we cannot guarantee anyone any sort of accommodation; it’s entirely up to you.
That said, for those that missed out, remember the following hotels still have ample availability and all are within 5-10 minutes’ walk. (Or, if you don’t want to walk, a shuttle ride to LAX and another courtesy shuttle back to the hotel of your choice; or a taxi, easy!)
Hilton LAX – practically next door to the Marriott
Embassy Suites LAX – across Aviation Blvd.
Crowne Plaza LAX – across Aviation and 1/2 block down
Four Points Sheraton – 1 block north
Travelodge – 2 blocks east (adjacent to Denny’s Diner)
Westin LAX – 3 blocks east on south side of Century Bl.
Many of these hotels are easily bookable on the online travel sites; Expedia, Orbitz, Hotels.com and more. Some of them are EVEN CHEAPER than the Marriott discount rate was. And of course, the Park Air Express (between Marriott & Hilton) and The Parking Spot (just east of the Hilton) offer discount airport parking rates as low as $12/night with advanced reservations..
There are also many other hotels in the immediate area: Holiday Inn Express LAX, Wingate by Wyndham, Super 8 Motel, Radisson LAX and many more.
You may not have gotten a room inside our hotel, but there’s absolutely nothing stopping anyone with a ticket from enjoying the entire convention weekend! Except maybe for a few steps or a quick taxi ride.
Remember, Gallifrey One is here to put on a great convention… and that is our mission. We aren’t here to guarantee you a hotel room; we’re putting on the show. But rest assured we’re working on a fabulous 2015 event.
And with tickets sold out (with transfers coming in October) and our hotel sold out (with helpful hints already posted about where else to stay in the area; there are tons of nearby hotels), Gallifrey One now embarks on our annual Summer Vacation… a time where our team has closed the books on 2014 and can take a much needed breather until we start ramping up for 2015.
Our contact page will be open for (very) important business/queries, but otherwise, we’ll be going dark for a few months.
Gallifrey One’s regular convention updates will be back in September 2014 with our first major guest announcements for 2015; details on our main event programming; the opening of our ticket transfer request area (a separate Facebook page we’re creating just for it); and much more! We’ll see you all on the other side…
