A kaffeeklatsch (pronounced “coffee-klatch”) is an informal gathering of one or more guests with up to 12 attendees discussing their work; they take place in a small board room next to the elevator lobby and attendees are provided coffee & tea as part of the event. Kaffeeklatsches are very popular at Gallifrey One and take place with about 30 of our guests; the schedule of kaffeeklatsches can be found included on our electronic schedule. Nearly all of our kaffeeklatsches run an hour, with rare exceptions.
Unlike the other programming at Gallifrey One, kaffeeklatsches are provided first-come first-served by signing up at the Kaffeeklatsches Desk, which is right next to the elevator lobby and next to Member Services. The Kaffeeklatsches Desk opens on Friday morning, and there is always line of people waiting to get in. (For the 2017 Kaffeeklatsches, people were lining up as early as 8am Friday morning.) You are allowed to sign up for one kaffeeklatsch and list yourself as an alternate on one more. Once the early sign-ups are done, any events that are as yet unfilled are posted and available for anyone to sign up the rest of the weekend. Most events fill up quickly.
We plan to open our 2018 Kaffeeklatsch sign-ups at 9:00 am Friday morning; this is earlier than for 2017 because of the long lines that occurred.
Please remember that registering your attendance on our electronic schedule (available closer to the convention) is not a sign-up, so please do not rely upon it. Kaffeeklatsch sign-ups are taken only at the convention.
