Over the course of the next several months, this page will consist of Frequently Asked Questions for the Gallifrey 2010 convention, and Gallifrey One in general. You are welcome to submit a question if you feel it will be of general interest to our membership at large! Send it to us by visiting the contact us page.

When I register, will I receive a ticket? What do I need to bring with me?

When you register as an attendee at a Gallifrey One convention, you're considered to be a "member" of the event. You will not receive a ticket! Check the Member List page here at our site about two weeks later, and your name showing up there is all the proof you need that we've registered you as an attending member. When you arrive, just bring photo ID and you'll receive a badge with your name (or badge name if you chose something different) and a program book. It's that easy!

Should I stay in the hotel? Why should I book a hotel room directly through your website?

Staying at the convention hotel is entirely up to you, but something to consider: the convention doesn't end at 6:00pm. If you look at our Programming page, you'll see just how many activities and events take place in the evening: our Masquerade, dances, karaoke, Mysterious Theatre 337, our casino night, late night panels, and much more! Staying in the hotel means you can socialize with everyone (the bar is VERY full all night long, and so is the hotel foyer outside the bar), enjoy a leisurely dinner, circulate at the various convention room parties (last year, Phil Collinson ended up tending bar at one of the room parties!), spend time in the hospitality suite... and never worry about driving home!

As for booking at the Marriott, through our website: it's very simple. Conventions are given space in hotels to operate based on "Room Nights". One room occupied one night equals one room night. Gallifrey One, like many conventions, needs a certain number of room nights each year in order to receive the hotel space at no cost... and hotel space at no cost to us means we can spend more of our budget on what you want to see at our convention: the guests! So staying at the hotel directly affects the convention positively, and you can get great hotel rates too. Visit the Hotel page for information about booking.

When does the convention start and end?

Gallifrey One's registration desk opens Friday morning at 10:00am. Our programming starts, our dealers room opens, and our video program begins all at noon. (For those arriving after work on Friday, the first big event of the weekend is "Opening Ceremonies" on Friday night at 6:00pm.) On Sunday, we wind down at 6:30pm right after "Closing Ceremonies". To see the entire Gallifrey One event, if you're coming in from out of town, we suggest you plan on arriving sometime on Thursday afternoon and leave Monday morning; many of our attendees do this, and Thursday and Sunday nights in the hotel lobby and sports bar are just about as active and social as Friday & Saturday are!

Why haven't you invited (insert name here)?

We here at Gallifrey One, just like other long-running conventions, have been in this a long time, and so it's very likely that if you've thought of it, we probably have as well. There are specific reasons why you haven't seen certain people (yet) at our event. Some people are still employed by the BBC, and therefore appear solely at sponsored paid events (such as folks at the San Diego Comic Con, in appearances sponsored by BBC America). Some simply have issues that prevent them from traveling (Tom Baker, for example, will no longer travel overseas). That doesn't mean we're not doing our best to bring as many new faces to our convention as possible... along with long-time favorites, too!

This is just a small sample of Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.'s) that we have; we'll be posting more in the weeks to come...
